Holistic Healing
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Kung Fu are deeply connected. While TCM treats illness, Kung Fu supports self-healing, health maintenance, and disease prevention.
At the Kung Fu Zen Garden Retreat, external TCM therapies such as acupuncture, moxibustion, and cupping complement Kung Fu training. These safe and effective methods help balance yin and yang and are especially suitable for those who prefer not to take medication.
In a peaceful Zen setting, Kung Fu Zen combines traditional martial arts with professional TCM care to support holistic physical and mental well-being.

Norbert Strehlow, Germany, October 2025
About two and a half years ago, I underwent surgery on my right foot. It was a major operation: all the ligaments had to be reconstructed, and the cartilage had already detached from the bone and had to be reattached during surgery.
After the operation, I was confined to a wheelchair for approximately eight weeks and was strictly forbidden to put any weight on my foot. When I was finally allowed to start walking again, I quickly realized that something was wrong. Everyday movements were very difficult. I had problems walking up and down stairs, and I was unable to jump, hop, or run.
It was only after the surgery that arthritis in my ankle became noticeable. In hindsight, the arthritis had probably already been there before, but it had never caused any significant symptoms. Several doctors in Germany told me that arthritis was something I would simply have to live with, as there was nothing that could be done apart from getting used to the limitations.
During a stay in China, I met Professor Sun, who examined my foot and told me that this was not an unsolvable problem. I was very skeptical at first, as I had heard so many discouraging opinions before. Professor Sun explained to me that arthritis and rheumatic conditions are among his specialties.
After the very first treatment, I noticed a significant improvement. My foot felt much better, and my mobility increased noticeably. Over the following weeks, I received three to four additional treatments.
Today, I would say that my foot has recovered to about 90–95% thanks to the treatment. I can walk up and down stairs normally again, I can jump, hop, and run. Most importantly, I can once again actively spend time with my grandchildren. I can play with them, run around, and even play football with them – something I had long thought would no longer be possible.
During my time in China, I was also treated by Professor Li for a prostate-related issue. In Germany, my urologist had diagnosed a mild enlargement of the prostate, which was considered normal for my age and therefore did not require treatment. However, despite this assessment, I had noticeable symptoms.
I had to get up during the night three to four times to go to the bathroom, which significantly affected my sleep and overall well-being. Professor Li performed a pulse diagnosis and was able to identify this issue immediately. He then treated me using acupuncture as well as traditional Chinese herbal medicine.
After the treatment, I noticed a clear and measurable improvement. I now usually have to get up at night no more than once, and sometimes not at all. As a result, I am able to sleep for much longer periods without interruption, and my sleep has become far more restful and restorative.
Thanks to the treatments I received from Professor Sun and Professor Li, my quality of life has improved enormously – both physically and in my everyday life.
